Verizon Wireless' pending deal to acquire Alltel has meant uncertainty for Alltel subscribers, but perhaps more so for customers of both companies in a market that includes 10 Nebraska counties.
It is among the 100 markets in 22 states where Verizon has been ordered to sell some assets before the deal to purchase Alltel can proceed.
Verizon Wireless is expected to close in mid-January on its purchase of Alltel.
The affected markets include the Nebraska cities of Columbus, Fremont, Albion, Schuyler, Wahoo, David City, Blair and Central City.
A Verizon spokeswoman says until the deal closes, Alltel customers being acquired by Verizon Wireless won't hear much from Verizon. But Verizon is working to integrate the companies quickly.
