As Frank Sinatra would say, start spreadin' the news, the Elmwood-Murdock choir is going to New York City. They're not leavin' today, but Betty Colbert's group is busy preparing for the trip of a lifetime.

At $2,000 per person, they must collectively raise $75,000 to pay for the trip .

Betty Colbert is in her 7th year at Elmwood-Murdock. Her choir has grown from 7 students in the beginning to a choir that is now 63 singers strong. Colbert says her kids are, "Very talented, they make wonderful music. It's warm blanket, goose bump kind of thing. And their character is so strong and they're kind individuals with good hearts and it's just a wonderful group of kids!"

The young vocalists have been looking forward to Carnegie Hall since last summer, Ross Mumford can't wait, "It's just going to be an amazing opportunity that will probably only come once in a lifetime." Senior Teresa Fritz says, "I would have never thought that I would get to go there because you only hear about famous people singing there and if they're really good and it was just awesome to get this opportunity."

It turns out this is a bittersweet opportunity as members of the choir have dedicated their trip to 3 of their fellow students that were killed in a car accident last October, Lyndsey Hrabik says this trip is important, "I think it's a big deal for everyone because they were planning on going and they were excited about it too and everybody just wants to do it for them." Freshman Jake Kuhlman agrees, "These 3 kids were really great kids and they were all good members of our choir, they are all greatly missed and we all wish that they were here with us and we just want to make this the best we can do in their honor."

To help with the costs of the trip, there will be a soup supper held this Saturday night from 5 to 8 pm at the Elmwood-Murdock High School in Murdock. Along with some tasty homemade soups they'll also have a silent auction with some celebrity items.

THANKS FOR SUPPORTING THE ELMWOOD MURDOCK SCHOOLS WITH YOUR SPECIAL STORY. THEY ARE A SPECIAL GROUP OF KIDS WHO ARE WORKING HARD TO TRAVEL TO CARNEGIE HALL.

Thank you for creating such a nice piece on the choir. The kids really deserve it and it means a lot to the families and community to remember Tyler, Dillon, and AJ this way. What a wonderful tribute.
