A state lawmaker wants Nebraskans to vote on whether to allow slot machines at the state's horse tracks.
On Wednesday, Sen. Russ Karpisek of Wilber proposed an amendment (LR6CA) to the state constitution that would allow up to 3,500 electronic and video gaming machines at horse tracks.
Most of the money would go to the tracks and state highway construction.
Nebraska voters have voted down gambling proposals in the past. The leader of an anti-gambling group says she hopes lawmakers don't let the current plan get out of the Capitol.
Pat Loontjer of Gambling With the Good Life says the plan amounts to a bailout for racetracks and described the roads funding provision as a bribe to lawmakers who are struggling to pay for roads.

I am all in favor of any casino in Nebraska. Not sure why Nebraskans insist on letting all that money leave the state.
