A 54-year-old man who sexually assaulted his 4-year-old granddaughter will face sentencing in March.

Judge Robert Steinke of Platte County District Court heard the case without a jury. He found the Columbus man guilty after a one-day trial last week.

The charge -- sexual assault of a child -- carries a maximum of five years in prison, a $10,000 fine or both.

The man's name is not being used by The Associated Press in order to protect the identity of his victim.

Authorities say the girl told her mother about the assault, which occurred when the man and the girl bathed together at his home last summer.
