The one-horse town of Hickman is now a no-horse town.

An elderly horse that drew worldwide attention for his owner's refusal to comply with an ordinance barring livestock inside city limits has been moved to a new pasture.

The 32-year-old Morgan-quarter horse crossbreed named Peter Rabbit was taken in Thursday by Anderson Equine Services of Firth, Neb. His new home is about four miles south of the pasture where he had roamed since his birth in the spring of 1976.

Peter Rabbit's owner, 77-year-old Harley Scott, has kept the horse on land within the Hickman city limits. A city ordinance prohibits livestock in town, but Scott continued to keep the horse there amid controversy that has received national attention.

The move allows the horse's owner, Harley Scott, to avoid a Monday hearing in Lancaster County Court.

The Hickman city attorney filed a misdemeanor charge against Scott for harboring the horse in town.

Horses are amazing and I am sorry that this "small" town was unwilling to open their hearts enough to let this man and his companion be together into the sunset.

Alan did you get your so called facts from the Mayor or what? Sounds really twisted. You aren't even close to correct.

Oh My God! Why does it matter? This is so stupid! Why can't the Council pick on something else that is a BIGGER deal than a HORSE???? Seriously, people!! Worry about something bigger in life than something smaller! Hickman is a SMALL town! Good Lord! I agree, don't they have things better to do?! Like for example, worry more about the safety in town and/or the roads that are not safe! Needs to be paved and not have gravel rocks on roads....I mean, seriously....this is pathetic!

Come on people. Find out the facts in this story before you condem the city council and mayor. It was Harley Scott's son who pushed the issue to make the ordinance to ban large animals from the town of Hickman in the first place. Then, after the ordinance had passed, Scott requested to be annexed into Hickman. He was told that the only way that they could was if he got rid of the horse (which until this time didn't even have a name). He agreed to that, then once he was annexed, he didn't hold up his end of the deal. Check it out people

The Hickman City Council and Mayor are foolish petty people. They should have left the horse alone.

I guess things worked out after all *sniff, sniff*. Go get 'em, Peter Rabbit. We'll take it from here. *Runs outside singing Lee Greenwood's hit single, "God Bless the USA"*
