A powerful and quick-moving winter storm system left a blanket of 4 to 8 inches of new snow across much of Nebraska on Friday. An area of low pressure moving across Kansas brought snowfall rates of 2-3 inches per hour to some parts of the state. Snowfall totals ranged from around 3 inches in the southeast to up to 10 inches in Callaway, Nebraska in Custer county. 8 inch snowfall totals were reported in North Platte, Broken Bow, Ashton and Genoa. Grand Island picked up over 7 inches with reports of 5 to 6 inches of new snow in Kearney and Hastings. In Lincoln snowfall estimates of 4 to 5 inches were common. Accompanying the moderate to heavy snow were northeast winds of 15 to 35 mph, causing blowing and drifting of snow, reduced visibilitites and slippery roadways. By early Friday evening most of the accumulating snow had ended and all warnings and advisories had been canceled or had expired.
