The National Weather Service confirms two tornadoes touched down in northeast Nebraska, and several spotted tornadoes have been reported near Bennet, southeast of Lincoln.

Steve Carmel, in the service's North Platte office, says the first touched down at 1:45 p.m. Monday about nine miles south of Brownlee. It was on the ground for about two minutes.

Carmel says the second tornado was reported eight miles north of O'Neill just before 3:30 p.m. There were reports of downed power lines in the area.

Forecasters posted a tornado watch Monday for much of eastern Nebraska while the western end of the state reeled from a last wintry blast.

A tornado also took out two center pivots and numerous trees just east of Salem NE. It doesn't surprise me that you people didn't know that , you don't even know Richardson County exists unless someone gets murdered down there.

I am a spotter for a volunteer squad and so far all I noticed is that all of you want notice for cover and are not willing to be out in it to make the call. My husband and I both go out and spot for our community and it is not always that easy. You have darkness, dirt clouds, rain, hail, so many factors come into play that you don't know. And yes we we have children at home. We do what we do to protect them and our community. We feel what we do is very important! There are many factors involved. How many of you see what is going on at all times or are willing to go out and do it! Obviously you are dependent on others for your safety. I recommend going to storm awareness class at Saline Center 3-29-09 at 1:00 p.m. Let's ALL be aware of what's going on around us and help our neighbors instead of pointing a finger. We can't blame people that do what we are not willing to do.

I am very curious as to why it took 4-5 minutes AFTER all this damage occured before the sirens in Eagle were sounded? We were already cleaning up the glass in our living room when we heard them sound. This town could have been leveled and people badly hurt...I'm just thankful it wasn't worse than it was or it could have been a completely different situation. Everyone knew that there was going to be bad storms today and could clearly see the sky turning black...someone should have been watching more closely and warned this town sooner. Thank goodness we're smart enough to keep our eyes open!
