A Nebraska measure that would force cities to observe a statewide concealed-weapons law has advanced to the full Legislature.

A 2006 state law allows concealed handguns, but some cities still enforce local concealed-weapons bans. On Monday, the Legislature's Judiciary Committee advanced a bill (LB430) that would bar local bans.

It was introduced by Sen. Mark Christensen of Imperial.

Attorney General Jon Bruning's office issued an opinion earlier this year that cities could not override the state concealed-carry law.

Kearney dropped its 50-year ban on concealed weapons after the opinion. But other cities including Hastings have decided to keep their bans pending action on Christensen's bill.

In order to get my license I had to get checked by the state and FBI for a background check to prove that I have no felonies and no history of gun related violence, what do you know about everyone else? Hope they finally pass this and stop cities from violating the 2nd ammendment!

Good for Kearney! Hastings better get your act together!

About time they stop letting cities infringe on our 2nd ammendment right to bear firearms to defend ourselves! Let citizens have the right to defend themselves in the event of a gun attack! When seconds count in a gun fight, a police call that takes minutes to get help is a death sentence to the law abiding citizens!

Thank you Senator Christnensen for a piece of useful legislation. For all those of you who oppose this bill, remember that concealed carry permit holders have had background checks, training, and have no criminal or mental illness issues in their past. Can you say as much for your neighbors?
