The University of Nebraska-Lincoln is helping teach Middle School students about engineering by using a hands on approach.
Students had the chance to build paper bridges and test their durability by testing their weight limits as well as learn about ground water and how pollutants can affect drinking water.
"We are introducing 5th and 6th graders to engineering applications. Engineering right now is under served, especially in the United States. We want to get more students interested in engineering before they get to High School," said Andre Fortune, Director of Recruit and Retention for the College of Engineering at UNL. "It's our goal that the students learn a little bit about UNL, especially with the college of engineering and then they are also learning a little bit about engineering and how if affects their everyday life."
Wednesday and Thursday Discover Engineering Days will host 7th and 8th graders. There will be a open house April 24th for any student interested in learning more about engineering.
