U.S. Olympian Speaks Out About Sexual Abuse
Three time U.S. Olympic medalist speaks out about being a victim of sexual abuse as a child and overcoming what could be a paralyzing event in a childs life.

Margaret Hoelzer won three medals at the 2008 Bejing Olympics as one of the United States' top swimmers.

Since then, Hoelzer's disclosed that she was a victim of child abuse at the age of five, by a friends father.

Hoelzer said she was abused for nearly two years, but it wasn't until she was 11 that she and her family seeked help from a local child advocacy center in Huntsville, Alabama.

10/11 sat down with Hoelzer in a one-on-one interview to talk about her experiences.

Hoelzer made an appearance at Bryan LGH West to speak with area professionals working in related firelds. The workshop built on Margaret's experiences and provided professonals with critical information and strategies for protecting children from sexual abuse.
Hoelzer was joined by Lynn Ayers, Lincoln's Child Advocacy Center's Executive Director.

She is also scheduled to speak Monday at 7 p.m. at Bryan LGH East to share her experience as a survivor , the significance of recognition and reporting , and the importance of Lincoln's Child Advocacy Center.
