A York teenager is being charged with unlawful disposal of human remains after authorities say she dumped her stillborn child in the trash.
Records say the 17-year-old gave birth to a stillborn girl on Jan. 26. She put the body in a trash bag and placed it in an outside trash receptacle.
The trash was picked up by a local garbage company a day or so later. Police got a tip that the teen had given birth to a stillborn child and searched the house and landfill. They found the remains Feb. 2.
Police say a DNA test of the remains proves the teen is the mother.
The Class IV felony charge carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
