Larger school districts in Nebraska would get more money from the state than originally planned, under a proposal from a key lawmaker.

Sen. Greg Adams of York hopes his proposal will end the stalemate over school funding, which is jeopardizing the state budget. If the impasse is not broken, the state would have to give schools an additional $60 million at a time when state revenues are slowing.

Adams is chairman of the Education Committee. He presented his plan to the group on Wednesday. It could be considered by the full Legislature in the next couple of weeks.

Senators representing areas with larger schools, mostly in Omaha, blocked a school-funding plan earlier this month because they wanted more money for the districts.

The children in the rural areas have a god given right to the same education offered in the larger school districts. We have to spend more money getting our kids to activities and such. It's just an insult to us in the rural communties to sugggest the kids in larger districts are more important!!!! Maybe the school boards in bigger towns could get a better grip on their spending by being educated by the rural boards!!! Rural communities in Nebraska is what makes Nebraska the "Good Life"

Why not just make 4 school districts in the state. Omaha,Lincoln,Grand Island/Kearney, and then everyone else. That is what it has pretty much came to. Why is it back in the day there were country schools every 5-10 miles and now all C2 and smaller schools have to combine? The rich get richer is what it is all about. Never used to have as many "administrators" as they do now.
