Solich Fired

Nebraska Athletic Director Steve Pederson fired head football coach Frank Solich Saturday night.

Solich was in his 6th season as head football coach of the Huskers, taking over for Tom Osborne after the 1997 season.

After a 7-7 2002 football season, Solich led the Huskers to a 9-3 season, but it apparently wasn't enough for him to keep his job.

Over his six seasons as head coach, his record was 58-19, with one Big 12 Conference championship in 1999, and a National Championship game appearance in 2001.

The athletic department could not be reached for comment Saturday night, but they will be holding a press conference at Memorial Stadium at 1 P.M. Sunday.

Defensive coordinator Bo Pelini will be the interim head coach for the Husker's bowl game.
