Douglas County’s top crime scene investigator was arraigned on one charge of evidence tampering Wednesday afternoon in Cass County Court in Plattsmouth. David Kofoed is accused of intentionally falsifying documents in the investigation of a 2006 double murder in Murdock.
The Douglas County Crime Scene Investigation Unit helped investigate the murders of Wayne and Sharmon Stock. The couple was found shot to death in the bedroom of their rural Murdock home in April of 2006.
After the hearing Kofoed was released on his own recognizance but will be back for his preliminary hearing on July 23rd. If convicted, Kofoed could face up to 5 years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine.
On May 13th Kofoed appeared in federal court in Omaha to face four similar charges stemming from the same case. His trial in federal court is scheduled to begin July 6th.
