Hail, high winds, and heavy rain damaged crops in at least 10 counties according to the Nebraska Farm Service Agency.
The agency collected crop damage assessments from the storms that hit parts of Nebraska June 5, 6 and 7. Tim Reimer, Program Specialist with Nebraska FSA, said approximately 250,000 acres of corn and 115,000 acres of soybeans were damaged or destroyed in 10 Nebraska counties.
He said the normal yield for those crops would be reduced by around 10 to 15 per cent. That means a yield of 100 bushels per acre would be cut to 90 or 85 bushels per acre this year for both the corn and soybean crops affected. The counties involved are Adams, Buffalo, Clay, Gage, Hall, Hamilton, Jefferson, Saline, Sherman and Valley.
