Nearly 11 million cancer survivors across the country observed the 22nd annual National Cancer Survivors Day.

Hundreds in Lincoln joined in a celebration of life Sunday evening. Survivors and supporters enjoyed musical entertainment and activities at the Lincoln Children's Zoo.

Organizer Lisa Kendle says it's important to honor survivors while also remembering those who lost the battle. "Cancer touches people's lives in different ways," Kendle says. "It's not very easy. And we want to give them a day of just celebrating their life and this is that day."

National Cancer Survivors Day also coincides with the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life season where 500,000 cancer survivors are honored in 4800 communities across the country for their fight in the battle against cancer.
