For some Nebraska kids, a trip to the MAD DADS office in Lincoln was better than a trip to any candy or toy store.
That's because no one left empty handed. Every child chose a new bike to call their own.
According to Donald Coleman, President of the MAD DADS Lincoln chapter, the organization asks teachers in different school districts which students have bikes.
If a student doesn't have a bike, Coleman contacts the parents and tells them to bring their child to the MAD DADS office on a certain date and the child can pick out any bike they want for free.
On Friday, Coleman and the MAD DADS organization invited 7-10 students from Palmyra to pick out bikes and donated more than 20 other bikes to the Indian Center in Lincoln.
MAD DADS has been involved in the program for almost ten years and has donated more than 1500 bikes.
Coleman says he has first hand experience what its like to be a child and not have a bike to call your own.
"I grew up in a family of eleven and we had two bikes and the person who got up earliest in the morning was the one who got the bike. So I think every child needs a bike, its a fun thing for them and its something in my opinion every child needs to grow up with," Coleman said.
Bikes are donated from the community. MAD DADS repair and clean the bikes, to make them look as new as possible.
Bikes can be donated at any time to the MAD DADS office on 615 S. 6th St. in Lincoln.
