The investigation continues into the assault of a staff member by an inmate at the Nebraska State Penitentiary.

According to a news release from Warden Dennis Bakewell, the staff member was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries that are not considered to be life threatening at this time.

The inmate involved in the alleged assault has been identified and secured. As a precaution, and consistent with practice, the facility has been placed on lockdown status.

Due to the investigation, the names of the individuals involved are not being released at this time.
