Soon it will be lights, cameras, and action for a 4th of July party hosted by Larry the Cable Guy.
Saturday, July 4th, Larry the Cable Guy will "Git R Done" at Memorial Stadium. He's slated to give a unique concert for Nebraska fans.
The venue, the size of the crowd and the holiday timing will also mean Lincoln and University police will step up their enforcement to make sure the fun stays safe.
"I don't recall having an event of this size on a holiday such as the 4th, we have several factors against us. It's the 4th which is typically a holiday of eating and drinking beer, plus it's a weekend where people are relaxed and drink more, so officers will be busy," said Officer Katie Flood.
Busy making sure the 53,000 ticket holders for the Cable Guy's event don't overdo the celebrating.
LPD is teaming up with University police, and while it may be July, Saturday will look and feel a lot like a Husker gameday.
"Officers will be assigned to intersections downtown before and after the event," said Flood.
Those officers will also be on the lookout for drunk drivers.
"This is going to be at least the 2nd party day for many people but we're in good position because we already have planning," says Flood.
That planning includes plenty of University officers inside the stadium preventing fans from bringing alcohol into the stadium, and keeping an eye on everyone once they're inside.
"We don't anticipate any real problems occuring. We will screen people at the gates, and so we hope people come for the entertainment aspect and not to just make it a wild party," said Assistant Athletic Director Butch Hug.
"I don't want to ruin anyone's fun, but please be safe, plan ahead and don't get behind the wheel if you're drinking," said Flood.
Lincoln police aren't planning on using any overtime this weekend, but will be at full staff Friday and Saturday. Roughly 30 officers will be downtown for traffic control.

You did not move a national holiday, period. You moved explosions and pretty colors. This is the most annoying, stupid, childish argument ive ever heard. Yay for Larry the Cable Guy. P.S. Plymouth is a tiny town with like 500 people. Just because we dont throw childish little hissy fits over a few fireworks and a comedian bringing our town tons of money and publicity does not mean we think backwards...

I agree with cher, sam, and cry....get a life, all you whiners!! The tickets were only $6!! Two for UNL, I hear, and the rest for Larry's charities. UNL football tickets dont go THAT cheap. The man did good. Nice entertainment, laughs, not very good fireworks, but what the hey! I liked it. For those who whine, I'm glad you stayed home.

People come from western Nebraska to see Larry but not to go to the state fair? I think if they come for a concert they will come here for the state fair!!! It should have stayed right where it was and let the University find someplace else for their Innovation Campus or whatever they are calling it.
