Kids who went to the Lincoln Children's Zoo on Sunday left with more than just memories of wild and exotic animals. They also learned about the importance of water safety.
"Josh the Baby Otter" is a book that Blake and Kathy Collingsworth wrote after their son Josh drowned last year. It promotes education for young children and babies to teach them to float if they ever find themselves in water. In addition to book readings, a larger-than-life Josh the Baby Otter also made an appearance to visit with kids at the zoo.
"We really want to get the word out there to teach your kids," Kathy Collingsworth said. "To get into some sort of swim program, whether it is at an infant level with the float for life classes that are now at the YMCA, or just getting the message out to the children."
This was all a part of Otter Day at the Zoo. People that attended were also able to meet a real otter caretaker and see feedings with the zoo's three otters, "RC", "ET" and "Hanz".

Ed apparently has some issues with small zoo's? I love the Lincoln zoo, it's just big enough to take my 4 year old through and it's maintained nicely, good job LCZ workers!
Hey Ed, why don't you tell us how you REALLY feel? :) Don't take life so seriously, it's only temporary after all! ;)
It's not TOO obvious that Ed is a thirteen year old posting comments in a forum to get a reaction from others. GROW UP!!
What is up with Ed? The zoo may not be anything spectacular, but when you have kids and you want to do something fun with them for a few hours-it is a great place. They get to see lots of cool animals and learn different things about them. I do like Henry Doorly also, but it is almost getting too big. For a small child they get wore out. And it cost too much for something to do for an afternoon. Maybe you should learn to appreciate smaller things in life. And as far as the huskers--they are on a fantastic turn-around. And if you don't like it--get out of here and go back to what ever hole you came from. Learn respect and to show a little appreciation.
I would like to state that this zoo sucks and it should be shut down and made into a parking lot for the University of Nebraska since they get everything else in Lincoln since that loser Tom Osbourne is the director of those pathetic huskers.
