After more than a century in Lincoln, the state fair will move to Grand Island in 2010.

"It just means a lot," said state fair employee Connie Decker. "There's just a lot a lot of memories i have with the fair. Really good memories."

Memories that span a lifetime for Decker. Her grandfather was on the fair board and her father was the fair director. Now, as the the state fair ticket manager, she's continued that legacy.

"It's kind of like a family business," Decker said. "I was in "Four H" so i exhibited at the fair. I have lots of memories of concerts in the old Grand Stand. I'm dating myself, but they had ice capades when i was really little."

Others are sad to see it move too.

"I'll miss it as an employee and as a participant," said Julie Burton, the state fair entertainment director.

Still she's staying positive.

"We're not saying goodbye," Burton said. "I mean, it's the last year in Lincoln, it's not the last fair ever. It'll be a different fair. It'll be a great fair in grand island too."

After a lifetime of dedication, Decker's last day will be Labor Day

"I'm sure when that's all over and the adrenaline settles down it will probably really hit me that this is the last fair in this location," said Decker

While saying goodbye it bitter sweet, she holds no grudges.

"I love the fair so much that i really want it to succeed in Grand Island and I'll do everything i can to help it succeed and be a really good fair out there," Decker said.

So she can continue her family legacy.

Very sad topic for many of us! It's a bit upsetting to see a tradition flushed down the toilet. This year will be my last State Fair. I hope UNL is happy with what they have done.
