A State Department of Corrections official said an inmate was stabbed Thursday morning at the State Penitentiary in Lincoln.
Public Information Officer Kyle Poppert said, however, the injuries do not appear to be life threatening.
Poppert said the inmate was being treated at the penitentiary infirmary.
Authorities are investigating the incident.
The following is a statement from Warden Dennis Bakewell at the Nebraska State Penitentiary.
"There was an inmate on inmate assault this morning at the Nebraska State Penitentiary. The inmate assaulted received immediate medical attention and his injuries do not appear to be life-threatening. An investigation into the incident is currently underway. The facility continues on normal operational status. The situation will be continually monitored during the day. Due to the ongoing investigation, the identity of the inmates involved will not be released at this time."
Win Barber, Administrative Assistant to the Warden said the building will not be placed on lockdown.
