Community leaders say a proposed ethanol plant will bring 40 jobs to Grand Island.

That's good news for people like Aimee Steinhardt King.

She's been looking for a job for 3 weeks.

"There's a large amount of people coming to Grand Island and with new things opening up in Grand Island like the civic center and things, we definitely are going to see people drawn to Grand Island to move here, so we definitely need those kind of jobs too," she says.

Governor Heineman says people across the state are asking him to bring more jobs to Nebraska.

"That's what ethanol does. Everywhere we put an ethanol plant local farm economy improves, 40 permanent jobs to operate the plant," says Heineman.

Grand Island's proposed plant will be built south of town.

And because it will be locally owned, profits will stay here as well.

"If it's a profitable plant, the local ownership, the chips go to Grand Island or Central Nebraska locations and those dollars are spent here instead of moving to the east coast or west coast," says Energy Grains Chairman Paul Kenney.

"It means new jobs for Grand Island. It means the opportunity for local investors to be a part of the project. It means strengthening our general agricultural community," says Grand Island Mayor Margaret Hornady.

And it could mean a steady income for people like Aimee.

The company has filed for a conditional use permit from the city.

If that passes in January, an air permit from the state is needed to move forward.
