By: Associated Press
Updated: Wed 3:30 PM, Dec 03, 2003

Starting next month it will cost a little bit more to fill'er up in Nebraska.

The state's gas tax will increase two-tenths of one cent beginning Jan. 1.

The tax will go up from 24.6 cents per gallon to 24.8 cents.

The fuel tax is set by the Department of Roads to ensure adequate funding for highway projects, including maintenance and improvement.

The new rate will be good until at least June 30. The gas tax was last increased Jan. 1 from 24.5 cents to 24.6 cents.

The state tax is reviewed twice a year and, if necessary, adjusted to maintain a certain level of funding for state roads projects.
