The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office has launched a new community information service designed to deliver important and timely information to residents in our area using the latest technology.

Nixle is a platform which allows law enforcement and government agencies to quickly disseminate breaking news and crime information in a number of ways. Subscribers to the free service can receive information via text message, email, or by logging into their Nixle account on the internet.

Most messages will be sent to everyone who subscribes to receive LSO messages, but the Sheriff's Office has the ability to target specific areas. For example, a resident who lives near the City of Waverly may not receive crime information from an isolated incident that occurred near the City of Firth. In most cases the user will enter their home address; however multiple addresses can be entered (work, child’s school, etc).

The Sheriff’s Office envisions many uses for the new service including locating missing persons, issuing urgent crime advisories, announcing traffic delays, and broadcasting information regarding other dangerous situations.

Those interested can sign up by visiting www.nixle.com and completing the simple registration information. For those residents who prefer to receive their information instantly using Twitter, the Sheriff’s Office will utilize Nixle to push notifications to Twitter as well. To receive “Tweets” from the Lancaster County Sheriff, Twitter users should subscribe to: Lanc_Co_Sheriff
