A coalition of small businesses is working to build a voice for health care reform.
Nebraska Main Street Alliance held a news conference Wednesday at D. Beans Coffee in Lincoln for small business owners to share their health care stories and concerns.
A new survey by the alliance shows small businesses gave an overwhelming support for reform that includes: choices between private and public health insurance options; a system of shared responsibility; and a stronger role for government in making health care work for small businesses.
Center for Rural Affairs, Jon Bailey, says the need for reform can no longer be ignored.
" We're so dependent on entrepreneurship that if people can't become entrepreneurs, if they can't leave their current job because of their health insurance then our economy suffers we have no new businesses no new jobs created in rural communities," said Bailey
The group hopes while members of Congress are home during August recess, they will pay attention to the more than 100 Nebraska small businesses that participated in the survey demanding change.

Hi Daniel, Just wanted to clarify that this press conference was held at d.beans coffee located at 727 S. 11th Street in Lincoln, Nebraska. My sister and I own it. There were also several other local business owners that spoke at the conference. The Center for Rural Affairs also seems to be one of the few voices that speaks for rural Nebraska and they were also present speaking on behalf of health care reform. Main Street Alliance is working with The Nebraska Appleseed Center for Law in the Public Interest, a Nebraska organization. You're welcome to come to our little business and enjoy a cup of coffee.
Actually, this looks pretty fishy. http://mainstreetalliance.org/wordpress/nebraska/blog/ It's a national site that seems to have essentially no Nebraska component, despite the 10/11 story. You notice not a single Nebraska business is named nor businessman quoted on the site or in the 10/11 story. Were there any actual Nebraska business owners at the press conference? Even one?
There needs to be reform but it must ELIMINATE uninsured people. If not, we have gained nothing.
