Nebraska will follow a change in vaccinating children recommended by the Centers for Disease Control.
The CDC previously recommended two doses of vaccine for children under the age of nine who were being vaccinated for the first time. The change is being made in an effort to vaccinate as many children as possible with the limited supply of flu vaccine remaining.
The state also announced that it will receive 580 doses of adult vaccine this week. The state's chief medical officer, Dr. Richard Raymond, says over 11-hundred children will be inoculated using the new shipment of the vaccine.
Raymond says the new vaccine will be distributed to the 21 local health departments covering Nebraska on a population-based formula. The local health departments will then decide who will provide the flu shots and where those vaccinations will take place.
