More Than Two Dozen Have Applied to be Treasurer

It turns out a lot of people want to be state treasurer.

As of Friday morning, 26 people had submitted their names to Gov. Mike Johanns to replace Treasurer Lorelee Byrd. Byrd has announced she will resign effective Jan. 6.

The deadline for applying is 5 p.m. Friday.

People who have submitted applications to Gov. Johanns for the State Treasurer position:

Karl Borden, Gibbon finance professor at the University of Nebraska at Kearney
Andrew Brott, Omaha auditor for the state's motor fuels division
Gary Crinklaw, Omaha former Omaha police officer and assistant chief of police
Scott Danigole legislative fiscal analyst in charge of the treasurer's office
Stormy Dean, Ralston Democratic candidate for governor in 2002
Judy Domina, Norfolk manager for research firm studying children's mental health care
Elizabeth Evans, Omaha insurance company worker
Lynn Fankhauser, Stella district supervisor for distribution of the Omaha World-Herald
Susan Heavican, Rogers office manager for Colfax County Highway Department
Jay Hoffman, Arlington, VA assistant director of the U.S. Mint in Washington, D.C.; previously worked for the Nebraska Banker's Association
Wayne Hohndorf, Omaha experience working in several Omaha businesses
Robert Hotz, Lincoln attorney in State Auditor's office
James Kelly, Papillion worker at Physicians Mutual Insurance Co.
Robert Marples, Omaha owner of a financial consulting service
Marlinda S. Mead, Lincoln has worked for the U.S probation office
R. Anthony Metz, Omaha Union Pacific Railroad senior project manager
Mark Pacha, Omaha accountant with Allegiant Health
Jeffery Payne, Lincoln middle school teacher
Gail Schachtschabel, Omaha escrow officer
Robert Sheckler, Wayne Nebraska Party Candidate for treasurer in 2002
Steven Spady, York examiner for the state Banking Department
Bruce Stahl, Lincoln associate real estate broker
