Deadly Studies

Nebraska Wesleyan student Molly Claus' summer job wasn't what many would call traditional.

As part of Wesleyan's forensic science program, she spent two weeks in the Clark County, Nevada coroner's office.

She oversaw autopsies and even got some hands on experience with a brain examination.

She says the one thing she couldn't get used to was the smell of the autopsy room.

Claus is in her second year of the master's-level program and plans to be forensic psychologist. People in the field can work as psychologists in police departments, as expert witnesses or for the FBI.

This year in her classes, she's learning about such topics as police personality, jury selection and the insanity defense. Last year, she studied crime-scene investigation and issues relating to anthropology, DNA and abuse.
