Local Leaders React to Hussein's Capture

Nebraska's two U.S. Senators issued statements today in response to the U.S.'s capture of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.

Senator Ben Nelson appeared at a troop sendoff ceremony in Fremont Sunday afternoon.

At the ceremony, Nelson said, "...I thought it was a great day for freedom. This most dispicable person was denied going out in a blaze of glory and came crawling out of a hole, with a whimper."

Nelson cautioned, however, that Saddam's capture is not the final step to securing Iraq.

Senator Chuck Hagel released a statement Sunday morning, saying, "I applaud the efforts of our military and intelligence services. Saddam's capture is the most significant event since the invasion of Iraq."
