UNL Presidency Will be Vacant

The presidency of the University of Nebraska will be vacant as of July first. The goal of the Board of Regents is to have someone start around that time.

Congressman Doug Bereuter has said he would be interested in the position. Even though he is not seeking another term in Congress, he will still be a member through next year.

Regent Charles Wilson of Lincoln says if Bereuter applies and is selected as president, then, that will be an issue. He says the board does not want to wait until January for the university's next president to start.

A presidential search committee expects to have the names of finalists to the Board of Regents for consideration this spring. The names of applicants are not required to be public until they become finalists.
