Nebraska's National Guard has a new leader.
Brigadier General Judd Lyons was sworn in Sunday as Nebraska's Adjutant General.
"In the military, you're always trying to look ahead. We try and seek out leadership positions," Judd Lyons, Nebraska's Adjutant General said.
Lyons replaces Major General Tim Kadavy who is moving after a prestigious promotion.
Kadavy will serve as Deputy Director of the Army National Guard in Washington D.C.
He says his goodbye is bittersweet.
"When you're up at higher levels doing these types of things, you really start to appreciate how important it is when you see these soldiers and airmen doing what they do each and day," Major General Tim Kadavy said.
Lyons says while he's in charge, he wants to continue to train soldiers and airmen to serve the community and prepare them for deployment over seas in the global war against terror.
"We take that very seriously cause we want those soldiers to return to us safe and sound," Lyons said.
Adjutant General Judd Lyons will lead more than 4,800 air and army personnel who make up the National Guard.
Lyons is the state's 32nd adjutant general.
