Nebraska's insurance department is getting $719,841 in a federal grant to help provide health insurance to people who can't get conventional coverage because they are too sick.
The grant will be used to offset losses in the department's high-risk pool, which offers health coverage to people with serious medical conditions. In November, 6,289 people were enrolled in Nebraska's uninsured pool.
Nebraska was one of 16 states receiving nearly $30 million in grants from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The grants were distributed based on the number of uninsured in each state.
