Thursday, Union College celebrated 28 years of campus-wide community service with Project Impact.
More than 80 percent of the campus population at Union College volunteers at the start of each school year and serves more than 50 Lincoln organizations to help them prepare for another year of service. Students and employees take the day off from regular school activities and donate their time. Project Impact's mission is to create opportunities for Union students to connect with Lincoln service agencies, leading to long-term volunteer experiences. The event is entirely organized and led by Union College students.
An estimated 15,900 volunteers have worn the signature Project Impact t-shirts while contributing more than 103,000 volunteer hours over 27 years. Volunteers mainly contribute hours to complete tasks that agencies do not have time to accomplish, such as dusting, raking, mopping, washing, filing, organizing, shoveling, painting, building and any other requested tasks.
This year's volunteer projects include constructing a Habitat for Humanity home, serving meals to those in need, gardening and weeding, deep cleaning various buildings, sorting through clothes, filing documents, painting gym walls, and assembling first aid kits.
If your organization needs volunteers next August contact the Campus Ministries Office at Union College 402-486-2508.
