Callahan to be New Husker Coach

Former Raiders head coach Bill Callahan reportedly will be hired as Nebraska's new head football coach Friday.

ESPN and the Omaha World-Herald reported that Callahan accepted the job after meeting with Nebraska athletic director Steve Pederson Thursday.

Callahan's Minneapolis based agent Gary O'Hagan did not immediately return a phone message left by the Associated Press, though he had stated earlier in the day that Callahan was "very interested" in the job.

The Huskers have been looking for a coach since Frank Solich was fired Nov. 29, a day after wrapping up a 9-and-3 regular season.

Callahan was fired by the Raiders last week following a 4-and-12 season, one year after leading the Raiders to the Super Bowl.
