Smoking Ban Called Okay

The Lincoln-Lancaster Board of Health pushed the City Council this fall for a smoking ban in all public places.

In the end the council voted to ban smoking except in most bars.

After evaluating their efforts at their meeting Tuesday evening Dr. Ed Schneider said they did their best.

“We weren’t entirely pleased with the result but then again they did what they felt they had to do compromise wise. And that’s the political process we’re going to have to live with,” he said.

Board Director Bruce Dart said he is still hopeful for a complete ban.

In its annual report the Board of Health says this summers bout with West Nile went well despite a record number of cases. They say spreading tips on prevention helped ward off even more cases.
