Premium Protein Products Extends Furloughs for Lincoln, Hastings Workers Again

Premium Protein Products has extended for two more weeks the unpaid furloughs that began in June at its plants in Hastings and Lincoln.

Premium Protein Products has extended for two more weeks the unpaid furloughs that began in June at its plants in Hastings and Lincoln.

So about 400 employees will remain without work.

Premium Protein specializes in providing beef, pork and chicken with a verified source. The company headquarters and a processing plant are in Lincoln; its slaughterhouse is in Hastings.

Workers received word of the latest furloughs via a recorded phone message on Tuesday.

A spokesman for Premium Protein's majority owner declined to comment. He said private equity firm Matlin Patterson in New York was referring all questions to Premium Protein.

There was no answer at any of Premium Protein's offices Wednesday morning, and a hotline for workers went unanswered.
