The Food Bank of Lincoln and local restaurant partners are staging the 20th annual Dine Out to Help Out on Wednesday, September 9th. This year, more than 60 restaurants at around 100 different locations will be participating to donate 10% of their day's receipts to the Food Bank's efforts to help hungry people.
Food Bank Executive Director Scott Young says the need for food is at an all-time high this year in this challenging economy.
"Our demand is growing faster than we are able to keep up," said Young. "We continue to hear from families who have never sought food assistance before. Many people in food lines come from families with at least one employed person and they are still struggling financially."
Dine Out supports the Food Bank's work of getting food to partner agencies in 16 counties, the BackPack Program, the Neighborhood FOOD partnership with the Center for People in Need, the growing mobile pantry partnership with Catholic Social Services, and more.
"Area restaurants have been terrific to the Food Bank over the years," says Young. "September is Hunger Action Month, and this is a way for you to give a little to feed many. Through July were are distributing food at a pace of over 11,000 meals per day.
