A proposal to fund the Nebraska State Fair with lottery money is heading to the full Legislature for debate.
A committee voted five to nothing Monday to advance the proposed constitutional amendment.
NO one spoke in opposition of the proposal at the hearing before the General Affairs Committee.
Omaha Senator Mike Friend says he is concerned with tying the financial future of the fair to lottery proceeds, which could decrease if casino gambling moves into Nebraska.
Lincoln Senator Dave Landis says he is grateful for the chance to debate the idea. He introduced the measure, which is supported by the State Fair Board and a variety of others.
The measure would have to pass three rounds of legislative debate before it could be put before voters on the November 2nd ballot.
