Problems with the Cold

By: Laura Cole

Fire Captain Jon Enevoldsen says battling the cold is just part of his job. "If people don't want to work out in the cold, they shouldn't be firefighters in Lincoln, Nebraska." He says sometimes just getting to a blaze is the biggest problem. Even fire trucks, get stuck in the snow.
Enevoldsen says another problem is just keeping warm. "Anything we do with water, causes people to get cold faster." Sometimes firefighters are left to keep their cold equipment on.
Lincoln Fire Rescue is asking that people who have a fire hydrant on their property to remove the snow around it.
Officials say it will help hook up the hoses quicker if there's ever an emergency.
