Nebraska will be losing 500 jobs with the closing of the Tenneco plant in Cozad, but a company spokeswoman says sales could force production increases at the Seward plant.

On Tuesday, Tenneco said the Cozad shock-absorber plant would close by the end of 2010.

Spokeswoman Jane Ostrander at Tenneco's headquarters in Lake Forest, Ill., said Wednesday that the closing won't affect operations in Lincoln and Seward.

The Lincoln plant makes exhaust systems for Harley-Davidson and has about 100 workers.

She said the Seward plant, with 500 workers, is important for Tenneco's emissions-control business, "and we hope that it will grow with our growing commercial-vehicle business."

Ostrander says there are no specific plans and no timetable.

I used to work in the Cozad plant. I was not shocked to hear that it would be closing because of what I saw before I left. But now they say that the Seward plant will possibly increase production with possible expansion in the future. But then why is there a for sale sign in front of that building? Didn't they just downsize that plant and send a lot of people to another state?

Sure they didn't mention that fact, seems these days the truth isnt in the best interest of business. Look no further than Wall Street,Banking,Auto Industry, and last but not least Gov't!

"Won't affect other Nebraska plants"? Did they forget to mention that out of the 100 people at the Lincoln facility they let go of 50 of them yesterday?
