Nebraska celebrates its 137th anniversary as a state Monday with ceremonies in Omaha and at the State Capitol in Lincoln.
Gov. Mike Johanns was at Omaha's Durham Western Heritage Museum for an event at 9:30 a.m. Monday before he headed back to Lincoln for a 1:30 p.m. celebration at the Capitol.
Secretary of State John Gale has been conducting a series of state birthday parties across Nebraska. He has been sharing state history and miscellaneous information about the state with fourth graders.
Fourth grade is when Nebraska students study the state in their classes.
