Public Records Law Could Change

Omaha Senator Kermit Brashear is introducing a bill that would close public records on those who apply for state jobs.

He says during the search for a head football coach the process may have gotten a little out of control.

“Given the situation in regards to the football coach, I simply think we need to have a sophisticated process to attract candidates that would not want to be subjected to being part of a spectacle,” Brashear said.

Common Cause of Nebraska says there needs to be public input throughout the entire process.

“This is a public institution supported by pubic dollars and the public has a right to be involved,” said Jack Gould.

Gould adds that good candidates won’t mind the scrutiny.

The bill is currently before the Government, Military and veterans Affairs Committee. They must pass it before it can come to a vote before the entire legislature.
