Authorities in Red Willow County have ruled the death of Scott Hoffman, aide to U.S. Senator Ben Nelson and former journalist, an accident.
Thirty-three-year-old Scott Hoffman's body was found in a park pond on Monday. Authorities say Hoffman apparently went out on the ice-covered fishing pond to save one of his three dogs and fell through.
County Attorney Paul Wood said the autopsy indicates the drowning was accidental.
Hoffman was Nelson's aide in Nebraska and the former city editor of the McCook Gazette.
Funeral services are planned Friday at the McCook City Auditorium.
