Lottery Funds Could Be Used to Support the State Fair

A funding proposal for the Nebraska State Fair survived an attempt to kill it, but a vote on its advancement will have to wait. Lawmakers moved off the issue Friday without taking a vote.

The proposal would earmark $2 million in lottery money for the fair. If passed by the Legislature, voters would have to approve it on the November ballot.

Some senators argued against the measure, saying funding for the fair should not be protected in the state constitution.

Supporters say the fair is a unifying event for the entire state and deserves to continue.
