Lt. Gov. Dave Heineman has been appointed to the National Homeland Security Advisory Council.
Heineman was appointed to the 20-member panel by Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge.
The council includes government representatives and others. It provides advice to Ridge on homeland security issues.
Gov. Mike Johanns announced Heineman's appointment Monday.
Heineman has been in charge of Nebraska's homeland security efforts since 2001. To date Nebraska has received about $65 million from the federal government to address homeland security issues.
