Josh Mosier calls it a hobby on steroids. This Davenport, Nebraska native had no idea that a childhood fascination with knife making would one day turn into his own business, Spring Creek Nnife Works.

For much of his success, Josh credits his dad Wes. And one of the most important lessons he ever taught his son was, "You can take a piece of metal and bring it to life."

It was those simple encouraging words from his father, along with an instructional TV show 26 years ago that helped light the fire for Josh, "I don't know what it was, something snapped and I had to make a knife." And he's been perfecting his craft ever since. "There's just something about moving metal. I love forming metal, taking something that's one thing that's designed to be a railroad car coil spring and turning it into something completely different."

Josh says it never gets old, "I've made between 400 and 500 knives since I started this whole thing many years ago and every one is a new challenge and a new adventure."

The 37-year-old says he loves each step along the way. From heating the steel, to forging, to cutting, to grinding, to making the leather sheath, "It's that process just fascinates me, it's what keeps me going."

Josh's dad Wes is very impressed with what his son has accomplished, "Huge. Huge. Because he's taken this far beyond what I could have ever done. So I'm very proud of him."
