Norovirus cases are starting to pop up in Lincoln. The Lexington Assisted Living Center, at 5550 Pioneers, has seen several cases. Tim Timmons of the Lancaster County Health Department says the norovirus is highly contagious.
Symptoms include sudden onset of nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, chills, head and muscle aches. It typically lasts from 24 to 48 hours.
Timmons says it's transmitted hand to mouth, and through contaminated surfaces. He says the best way to stop and prevent the spread of the norovirus is through good hand washing.
Seven cases of norovirus have shown up at Bryan LGH. The health department reports another virus going around, it's called Rotavirus. The symptoms are similar to the norovirus, however the illness can last three to eight days.
