Nebraska Secretary of State John Gale says he'll seek a third term in office.
Gale plans to begin his 2010 re-election bid with a series of news conferences on Monday. The conferences will be held in North Platte, Kearney and Grand Island.
Gale is a Republican who was appointed secretary of state in December 2000, replacing Scott Moore. Gale was elected in November 2002 and again in 2006.
So far, no other candidate has publicly declared an intention to seek the position.
The secretary of state's office oversees elections, state records, business registry services and occupational licensing, among other duties.
The recalled beef was shipped primarily to distribution centers in Nebraska and California.
