Much of the crowd seemed to be uniformed men and women, many with black bands covering their badges.
"Everyone's kind of all in the same family," Lonnie LaRue, the Meadow Grove Volunteer Fire Chief, said.
LaRue traveled two-and-a-half hours with three others from his department to pay respect to Wood River Fire Captains Bobbu Heminger and Kenny Woitalewicz.
The two men were critically injured when they attempted to rescue 73-year-old Anna Carrig from her burning home Saturday. Heminger died Sunday of his injuries.
Woialewicz died Tuesday. Carrig also died in the fire.
The Reverend Karen Kennerly of Saint Francis Hospital in Grand Island described Heminger as a man who loved golf, grilling and hunting, and had a good sense of humor.
She said his children, Jonathan and Lindsay, 16, told her that if they could give their father a message they would tell him, "I miss you. I miss your teasing and playing jokes."
